The Fascial Manipulation Method is a cycle of articles dedicated to the understanding of themost common dysfunctions we meet during our clinical practice, specifically theirmanifestation and treatment with Fascial Manipulation. FM specialists report clinical cases, accurately describing their symptomatology, the chosen work plan and the resultsobtained, thanks to the treatment. For privacy reasons, the names of the patients have been changed.

CLINICAL CASE OF VETERINARY FASCIAL MANIPULATION

Baldo, a 12-year-old neutered mixed-breed male dog, weighing 35 kg, with a radiographic imaging of very serious arthritis of the right elbow and bilateral hip due to probable outcome of hip and elbow dysplasia. Baldo was adopted at the age of about 5 years and immediately showed lameness in the right front limb, after about 1 year of using NSAIDs as needed he started regular physiotherapy (diathermy, laser therapy, kinesitherapy), with a good outcome regarding the front lameness, which remained sporadic. In the last 3 years the lameness has appeared sporadically on the hindquarters, both on the right and left limb, he continued regular physiotherapy also adding acupuncture, integrative medicine (omega 3 fatty acids, CBD oil) and NSAIDs as needed.

MOVEMENT VERIFICATION
Baldo was stiff and poorly mobile at the level of the spinal column, he barely extended his hind limbs when walking and he was slightly limping at the level of the right forelimb.

TEST
Reduced external rotation of the pelvis bilaterally, reduced retropulsion of the hind limbs, reduced antepulsion of the forelimbs. Reduced retro-lateral and retro-medial movements bilaterally affecting the hind limbs.

PALPATORY VERIFICATION
Based on the tests and the motor verification, it was decided to proceed with the palpatory verification of the following segments: TH, LU, SC, CX, palpating both the CC and the CF of each. The densifications of the CFs were much more numerous, as reported below:

TH: ANLA l ***, RELA l***
LU: REME r ***, RELA l***, RELA r ***, ANLA l***, ANLA r ***
CX: ANLA r *** SC: REME l **

Given the correspondence of the CFs detected with the long right REMEPES spiral, it was decided to palpate all the CFs of this spiral:

REMEPES r * ANLATA r 1*, 2***
REMEGE r 1**, 2**
ANLACX r ***
ANLACD r ***
ANLAPV r ***
ANLALU r ***
ANLALU l ***
ANLATH l ** (head)
ANLACL l **
REMECP l 1**, 2* (front limb)
REMESC l **
REMEHU l *
ANLACU l 1***, 2***
REMECA l 1**, 2**
ANLAPES l **

Once the most altered CFs were identified, the spiral was treated and, in accordance with the animal’s manifestations of discomfort, it was manipulated in the most tolerable way possible, without creating discomfort.

TEST
The tests performed initially were repeated and the mobility of the hind limbs had improved both in the retro-lateral and retro-medial direction, in addition to the improvement of the external rotation of the pelvis, bilaterally.

MOVEMENT VERIFICATION AFTER TREATMENT
Immediately after the treatment, Baldo stood up easily, without hesitating as usual, and headed towards the exit, trotting and showing good mobility of the entire trunk, as well as good support of the limbs. He usually preferred to walk on areas of the floor covered with non-slip mats, while in this case he gained the exit from the room without worrying about the absence of the mats.

SECOND TREATMENT one week later
The owner reported that the improvements noted immediately after the first fascial manipulation treatment continued unchanged throughout the week; therefore, all the CFs of the entire spiral were palpated again and the densifications still evident were treated.
